JUSTIN Chua was named as the Top Bubble D-Fender by the PBA Press Corps, which will hold its awards night on March 7 at the TV5 Media Center.
Chua will receive the award after a stellar campaign in the Philippine Cup bubble in which the Phoenix Super LPG big man led the league in blocks with an average of 1.6 per contest.
Aside from his blocks, the 6-foot-6 Chua also put up strong numbers in scoring (11.6) and rebounds (6.6) to become a candidate for the Most Improved Player award.
Chua is also part of the All-Bubble D-Fenders squad with Christian Standhardinger of NorthPort, Calvin Abueva of Magnolia (then with Phoenix), Chris Ross of San Miguel, and Mark Barroca of Magnolia.
Phoenix also has one other awardee in the ceremony to be aired on March 8 on PBA Rush with RJ Jazul tabbing the Mr. Quality Minutes award.
CJ Perez also captured the Scoring Champion plum, while Aaron Black, Arvin Tolentino, Roosevelt Adams, Barkley Ebona, and Renzo Subido were named to the All-Rookie Team.
The Barangay Ginebra vs Meralco Game 5 of the semifinals was named Game of the Bubble.
Also to be handed out during the awards night are the Outstanding Coach of the Bubble, Mr. Executive, and President’s Award.
In the same awards ceremony, the 2019 winners will also formally be awarded led by Baby Dalupan Coach of the Year Leo Austria of San Miguel and Danny Floro Executive of the Year Ricky Vargas, the league’s chairman.
PBA great and Bulakan, Bulacan mayor Vergel Meneses is the Presidential Awardee, as Sean Anthony of NorthPort will be taking home the Defensive Player of the Year.
