JUSTIN Brownlee is no longer surprised with the play of Bobby Ray Parks Jr. in the PBA particularly on Friday when Barangay Ginebra lost to Blackwater thanks to the heroics of his former San Miguel Alab Pilipinas teammate.
Brownlee had a game-high 44 points, but his performance was overshadowed by the play of Parks, who had 10 of his 28 points in overtime to win over Ginebra, 108-107.
Brownlee said he expects that kind of game from Parks, a teammate of his during their title run in the 2017-2018 season of the Asean Basketball League.
“That’s why he was a three-time MVP,” Brownlee said. “I’m used to seeing him doing that in the past with Alab and even before I got here, he was doing great. I definitely expect that in this league too.”
Brownlee had the task of guarding Parks in the endgame. And although Brownlee was able to pick Parks’ pocket a few times in the match, Parks was able to adjust and still hit crucial shots on his way to helping Blackwater take a one-point victory over Barangay Ginebra.
“He got a lot of weapons. Great size for his position, can put the ball on the floor, can shoot the three-pointer, can get to the line. Very tough trying to contain him, keeping me out from the free throw and out in the paint,” said Brownlee.
Even though they are no longer teammates in the PBA, Brownlee is happy for his former ABL teammate.
“He hit some big shots tonight. Definitely, I’m proud of him. He had a really good game and they are looking really good this conference, especially with Alex Stepheson,” he said.
