LUCENA - Justin Brownlee believes Greg Slaughter coming on board was the best thing that ever happened in Barangay Ginebra's title-retention bid in the PBA Governors Cup

The 7-foot Slaughter finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in his finals debut and was an imposing presence in the middle for the Kings in their 102-87 rout of the Meralco Bolts in Game 1 on Friday night at the Quezon Convention Center here.

Slaughter sat out last year's championship series against the Bolts due to a knee injury, but the Kings nonetheless still won the championship in six games.

But Brownlee acknowledged Slaughter's presence has been a big boost for the Kings, especially for the frontline.

"He definitely makes our offense a lot easier," he said of the former Ateneo standout. "He had a great game and we'll keep looking for him. I think he's doing a great job playing in this series.

Brownlee was just as impressive in the series opener, finishing with 32 points, 19 rebounds, and six assists as he spearheaded the Kings' strong start.

"I just want to set the tone and try to be aggressive," he said as the Kings raced to a 49-35 lead at the half.

While he doesn't expect Meralco to play the same way in Game Two, the prolific import is keeping his fingers crossed the reigning champions will emerge victorious once again.

"Hopefully it comes out the same way as Game One," he said with a smile.
