ALLAN Caidic found his legendary shooting touch late, spearheading a key barrage that enabled San Miguel greats to hold off Alaska, 96-83, on Sunday in the 'Return of the Rivals' game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Caidic atoned for his shooting struggles in the first half by hitting a pair of three-pointers in a fourth-quarter run that enabled the Beermen to pull away for good in the benefit game that brought back memories of the PBA's glory days.
Caidic finished with 26 points on 7-of-18 shooting, including 6-of-14 from threes, to earn Player of the Game honors.
Denok Miranda added 17 points while Danny Ildefonso contributed a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Beermen, who trailed at halftime, 40-32, but outscored the Milkmen, 64-43, in the second half.
San Miguel Beer won P100,000 for winning the game, while Caidic took home P25,000 for the Best Player award.
Caidic, who played for San Miguel from 1993 to 1998, converted two three-pointers including a buzzer-beater from the deep right corner as the Beermen broke loose a 75-75 deadlock with a 16-4 run.
Dondon Hontiveros had 11 points while Nic Belasco grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds for San Miguel Beer.
Willie Miller had 20 points while Johnny Abarrientos had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Milkmen, who opened a 34-24 lead in the second quarter but lost its wind in the final stretch.
