June Mar Fajardo holds big lead over Alex Cabagnot, Terrence Romeo in MVP race

    Sep 27, 2017

JUNE Mar Fajardo's bid for a record four straight PBA Most Valuable Player titles holds sway as the San Miguel Beer stalwart comfortably leads the race entering the playoffs of the season-ending Governors Cup.

By the end of the eliminations, the 27-year-old big man leads teammates Alex Cabagnot and Arwind Santos, Terrence Romeo of Globalport, and TnT Katropa's Jayson Castro in the fight for the league's highest individual honor.

Fajardo has so far amassed 38.4 statistical points to lead the race, with Cabagnot and Romeo running second and third overall, respectively.

Cabagnot is a far second with 33.5 sps, while Romeo accumulated 32.0 sps.

Fajardo already made history last year when he became the first player in PBA to win three straight MVP plums. He remains on track of extending the record especially if the Beermen, seeking a second grand slam in franchise history, make it deep into the Governors Cup playoffs.

Santos, who won the MVP trophy before the 6-foot-11 Fajardo began his reign, is in fourth with 31.5 sps, followed by Castro with 31.1 sps.
