JUNE Mar Fajardo was visibly frustrated when he emerged from the dugout shortly after San Miguel Beer's heartbreaking 101-104 loss to Meralco in the PBA Governors' Cup on Sunday.
Fajardo was obviously not happy after the Beermen squandered a 96-87 advantage in the crucial minutes and the chance to nab the second spot heading into the playoffs.
Now the SMB crashed to sixth place and will face defending champion Barangay Ginebra, who will have twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals.
But the 6-foot-10 gentle giant from Cebu was not one to pin the blame on anyone.
In fact, he took the blame for the loss after his floater went short before Meralco import Allen Durham settled matters with a pair of free throws.
"Kasalanan ko talaga. Namintis ko yung huling tira ko," he said.
"Dapat panalo kami e. Good look na yun e. Di ako makakatulog nito mamaya."
The loss may have dented their grand slam hopes but Fajardo said as they are still on track to pull off the rare feet.
"Kailangan namin paghandaan ang Ginebra. Pero sa ngayon pahinga muna kami," he said.
"Hindi pa naman kami out. May chance pa kaming manalo. Kailangan namin mag-stay positive lang. One game at a time."
The Beermen will take on Ginebra in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
