TNT KaTropa import Joshua Smith has been hobbled by a foot injury, which he suffered in the semifinals series against Ginebra, all throughout the four games so far in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, currently tied at 2-2.
But for San Miguel Beer big man June Mar Fajardo, Smith has hardly looked like he’s nursing an injured foot.
And inspired by the coming birth of his first baby, the TNT import was just close to unstoppable in the paint, with the Beermen’s three-time MVP fouling out with 2:02 remaining in the 102-97 loss to the Katropa in Game Four on Wednesday.
His last foul was on the hulking import, who scored on a putback to set the tables up for TNT’s breakaway to tie up the series.
For the 6-10 Fajardo, Smith just keeps getting better each game regardless of the injury.
"Parang di naman talaga sya injured ever since eh," said Fajardo of Smith, who finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds in Game Four.
Fajardo, though, remains optimistic his team will regroup in time for Game Five as the Beermen look to gain the headway anew.
"Medyo frustarted pero ganun talaga. Kailangan mag-move on. Tapos na yun, kailangan matuto kami dun," said Fajardo, who just had 13 points and nine boards, and committed five turnovers before fouling out after less than 27 minutes of play.
Game Five is on Friday, 7 p.m. at the same venue.
