MARCIO Lassiter admitted the return of June Mar Fajardo has freed up space for San Miguel Beer’s snipers against Alaska n the PBA Philippine Cup Finals.
Lassiter, SMB’s top triggerman, appears to have benefited the most, evidenced by his torrid shooting in the Beermen’s 100-89 win in Game Six.
“It could be a correlation,” the Gilas shooter said of Fajardo’s return affecting their outside shooting. “He’s opening it up for us shooters. They have to collapse on them and it’s been helping us. I got some good looks.”
“He gets so much attention,” he added of Fajardo, who missed the first four games of the series after hurting his left knee in the semifinals.
Lassiter finished with a game-high 26 points, built around four triples – half of SMB’s entire output beyond the arc.
Fajardo added 16 points in 22 minutes, but six more Beermen scored at least seven points each that highlighted their depth.
Lassiter and Fajardo ouscored the entire Alaska team, 25-23, in the final period.
“We showed that we play through June Mar, who got his rhythm a little bit, but at the same time, we played as a team,” Lassiter said. “Good things will happen.”
