BOCAUE, Bulacan – During his younger days, June Mar Fajardo was laughed at for being just a tall kid who doesn’t know how to play basketball.
Now, that kid has won five MVP awards in the PBA.
“Sino ba mag-aakala na ‘yung dating pinagtatawanan, five-time MVP na. Hindi mo talaga masasabi ang buhay ng tao,” said Fajardo in his acceptance speech on Sunday during the PBA Leo Awards.
By winning his fifth MVP trophy on Sunday, Fajardo surpassed two legends of the game in Alvin Patrimonio and Mon Fernandez, who had four each during their careers.
During his speech, Fajardo thanked the people who were instrumental in his basketball career, including his coaches at University of Cebu in Rhoel Gomez, Calib Gawangon, and team manager Atty. Baldomero Estenzo.
More importantly, Fajardo thanked his father Bonifacio, mother Marites, and brother Jay for the inspiration. Fajardo’s parents personally attended the Leo Awards to witness their son receive his fifth MVP award.
For Fajardo, he wouldn't be winning the five MVPs if not for his parents.
“Kahit ako, hindi ko in-expect,” said Fajardo in an interview with reporters after the PBA Leo Awards.
Fajardo said he is inspired to work even harder for his parents, who had to work hard just to fend for the family's needs during his childhood.
