JUNE Mar Fajardo put himself in a good position to win back-to-back MVPs as he emerged the frontrunner for the top individual plum at the end of the PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round.
The San Miguel Beer stalwart emerged as the frontrunner in average statistical points (SPs) with 36.7, ahead of Talk ‘N Text playmaker Jayson Castro (29.09), and Ginebra big man Greg Slaughter (29.07).
Aside from statistics, also factoring in the selection of the award are the votes from the players, Commissioner’s office, and the media.
If the Cebuano slotman does win, he will join an elite company of multiple winners in Mon Fernandez, Alvin Patrimonio, Bogs Adornado, Abet Guidaben, Benjie Paras, Danny Ildefonso, Willie Miller, and James Yap.
Fajardo’s current SPs average in the season-ending conference at 35.1, also put him on track for a third Best Player of the Conference award.
The Gilas Pilipinas big man is ahead of two Globalport standouts in Terrence Romeo (34.9) and Stanley Pringle (30.4) for the conference honor.
Pringle, though, is the favorite to win the Rookie of the Year after tallying 28.8 SPs throughout the season, ahead of TNT’s Matt Rosser (22.5) and Brian Heruela of Blackwater (20.5).
