SAN Miguel Beer seeks to dictate the tempo against TNT Katropa on Sunday when the Beermen aim to regain command of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen lost a two-point decision in Game Two on Friday that canceled out their 13-point victory in the semis opener as the best-of-seven series is tied at one game apiece.
But the two-time defending champions will try to slow the pace down this time as they take on the Texters at 6:30 p.m.
June Mar Fajardo remains the focal point of SMB’s half-court attack after flirting with a triple-double in Game Two with 25 points, 11 boards, and seven blocks.
“Execution lang ng plays,” Fajardo said. “Hindi kami pwede makipagsabayan sa takbuhan nila. More on set plays kami.”
The Beermen saw the Texters register 16 fast-break points, although just three more than what SMB scored in transition in Game Two.
The Texters managed to neutralize SMB’s snipers in Game Two as Marcio Lassiter and Arwind Santos knocked down just one three-pointer each, on the way to putting an end to the Beermen’s 11-game winning streak dating back to early December.
“Malakas din yung kabilang team, mga beterano yun na alam manalo sa semifinals,” Fajardo said. “Di mo naman masu-sweep yun eh.”
“Pero confident ako,” he was quick to add. “Tiwala ako sa teammates ko at sa sistema ni coach Leo.”
