JUNE Mar Fajardo attributed his limited touches in Game Three of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals to nothing but Alaska’s suffocating defense on Sunday night.
The San Miguel Beer star actually had his most attempts in the best-of-seven series so far with 10, but only converted four of them as he finished with 13 points along with nine boards in 36 minutes of play during the Beermen’s sorry 78-70 loss to the Aces.
While he cited a swarming Alaska defense which clogged the Beermen’s passing lanes for his limited touches, a shortage of passes from Fajardo’s teammates could also be a factor.
The league’s reining MVP though, offered no suggestions on possible changes in the team’s game plan, but he’s hoping adjustments would come to free him up at the post.
“Hindi ko nga rin alam eh (kung bakit nakakarating ang entry pass), pero gagawa naman ng adjustment.”
But he did credit Alaska for its effort of trying to contain him.
“Maganda rin talaga ang depensa nila (Aces),” added Fajardo, who committed four turnovers when the ball did reach him.
The Cebuano slotman also cited the fast pace of the game, which favored the Aces in shrugging off a 21-point cushion.
“Nakipagsabayan kami sa game nila eh,” he said. “Dapat binagalan na lang namin yung game.”
