JUNE Mar Fajardo sees no problem blending in with top pick Christian Standhardinger even as San Miguel dropped its first game in the PBA Commissioner's Cup - a 93-85 defeat to Meralco on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The reigning four-time MVP wound up with 16 points and seven boards, a little below his usual averages but he insists that the adjustments are only minor upon the celebrated big man's arrival.
"Minor lang. Matagal na rin si Christian naglalaro eh, so makaka-adapt din siya sa sistema ni coach," said Fajardo of the 2017 PBA draft’s top pick, who wound up with four points, five rebounds and two steals in hid debut.
"First game niya kanina, bago siya sa tawagan, pero hindi naman big deal yun. Kailangan lang namin mag-bounce back sa next game," he added.
As a team though, it's a different story. Fajardo said that they have to find that same fluidity as a unit, the same way they had when they became the Philippine Cup champs for the fourth straight time.
"Siguro first game, medyo kailangan pa namin ipractice yung chemistry. Di lang namin na-execute ng maayos ang mga plays pero nandoon kami eh. Nagkatalo lang sa last two minutes," said Fajardo.
That's why he isn't really worried about their campaign moving forward.
"Okay lang. Malakas din yung kalaban e. Syempre nakakadisappoint na matalo pero ganun talaga. Buti first game lang ito. Marami pa kaming games na lalaruin. Kailangan lang naming mag-adjust," said the gentle giant from Cebu.
