SAME as before, injured big man June Mar Fajardo believes San Miguel is capable of playing well even in his absence coming to the team’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup game against Star on Easter Sunday.
The back to back league MVP will sit out the 5:15 p.m. encounter against the Hotshots as he continues to recuperate from a knee injury he suffered against Rain or Shine more than three weeks ago.
He sat out the Beermen’s game against Alaska, which the team won, 116-96, although coach Leo Austria said Fajardo is set for an Easter Day comeback.
Then again even without him, Fajardo strongly believes his Beermen, who are running second with a 4-2 win-loss record, can cope well even against a Star side which is on a three-game winning run.
“Malakas din naman kami (kahit wala ako),” said the Cebuano center shortly after the Beermen’s practice on Maundy Thursday. “Malakas yung import namin eh, so mahihirapan rin sila.”
“Hindi lang naman sa akin nagre-revolve yung San Miguel eh,” he added as Yancy de Ocampo, Gabby Espinas, and Jay-R Reyes are expected to step up in his absence.
“Ang lalim ng bench namin.”
