AFTER working so hard to win his first career championship, San Miguel Beer star center June Mar Fajardo intends to have some fun in the PBA All-Star Weekend three weeks from now.
Fajardo, in fact, said he’s toying with the idea of playing the point guard position after learning on Friday that he was voted to start for the South team alongside fellow giants Greg Slaughter of Barangay Ginebra and the ageless Asi Taulava of NLEX.
“Puwede din 'yun, point guard ako dun eh kasi ang lalaki namin,” chuckled the 6-foot-10 Fajardo during a brief chat with Spin.ph shortly after the Beermen’s two-hour practice at the Acropolis gym in Libis, Quezon City.
The 2015 All-Star Game will mark the first time Fajardo and Slaughter will be playing together, having started as college rivals back in Cebu.
The two big men faced off in the 2009 Cesafi (Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc.) Finals with Slaughter’s University of Visayas Lancers beating the Fajardo-led University of Cebu Webmasters, 3-1.
The 25-year-old Fajardo said he’s looking forward to finally teaming up with Slaughter after their supposed frontline partnership at Gilas Pilipinas last year failed to materialize.
“Di ko pa siya (Slaughter) naging teammate before dahil di siya natuloy sa Gilas, so first time namin itong magkasama sa isang team,” Fajardo said.
This year’s All-Star Game is set on March 8 at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum in Palawan.
