JUNE Mar Fajardo is back in the PBA Finals, and hopefully, he’ll get the job done this time.
“Excited kami na makabalik ulit sa Finals. Kailangan namin mag-practice pa lalo kasi pahirap ng pahirap yung Finals. Di basta-basta ibibigay yan,” said Fajardo, who banged in 28 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and issued five assists to lead the Beermen to a series-clinching 100-87 victory over Talk `N Text in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinals Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 6-foot-10 big man from Pinamungahan, Cebu overwhelmed the Tropang Texters with his monster numbers in the best-of-seven series by averaging 20.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.5 blocks as he carried the Beermen to a 4-0 sweep of their bitter corporate rivals.
While savoring the team’s two-day off given by management, the San Miguel star center can’t help but remember how his first Finals appearance during the 2013 Governors Cup ended in a bitter 4-3 loss to San Mig Coffee.
No wonder, the 25-year-old Fajardo has been harping on the importance of teamwork, something which the Beermen have done so well this conference that enabled them to reach the championship round after compiling a league-best 13-2 record so far.
“Kami, as a team, maganda yung teamwork namin ngayon kaya walang imposible para sa amin. Basta magtutulungan lang kami. Huwag lang maging selfish. Kailangan namin ng teamwork,” emphasized the top pick in the 2012 Rookie Draft.
Fajardo said it doesn’t matter which team the Beermen will face in the Finals, as long as they increase their level of play heading into the best-of-seven series.
“Di ko ma-explain, basta mahirap makaabot sa Finals. Kaya ngayong nandito na kami, sayang yung opportunity kung di namin ite-take advantage. Kailangan naming mag-go hard lang lagi,” he added.
San Miguel will face the winner of the other semifinal series between Alaska and Rain or Shine.
