JUAN Gomez de Liaño lit up in the final minutes of his first tune-up game for Converge to defeat Meralco, 109-103, on Thursday at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City.
The No. 2 pick in the Season 50 Draft gave the FiberXers the clutch shots to pull away from the Bolts, starting with a four-point shot from the right side to take a 105-99 lead with 1:33 left in the match.
Gomez de Liaño then answered a three-point play by Meralco's CJ Cansino with a lay-up with 50 seconds left to keep the Converge advantage, 107-102.
The former internationalist played his first tune-up game with Converge after missing the FiberXers' previous match-up against Rain or Shine where they lost last Saturday.
On that same day, Gomez de Liaño signed a three-year max deal with the FiberXers.
