WITH NLEX shorthanded with the absence of star players Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas, JR Quiñahan is fighting through pain in order to contribute for the Road Warriors in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Quiñahan said he currently has a Grade Three meniscal tear in his right knee that already needs treatment, but the NLEX big man is opting to play on despite the injury especially with Ravena (Fiba suspension) and Alas (ACL injury) still out with the team.
Larry Fonacier is also sidelined due to an injury.
“Kailangan na linisin,” said Quinahan. “Kaso lang, sabi ng doktor, playable naman. Sasakit at mamamaga. Ginagawa namin ngayon, mag-strengthening, ice, meds, tinitiis ko na lang.”
Quinahan said he will finish the conference first before getting treatment, although he is expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period of time following the procedure.
“Tatapusin ko na lang ‘yung conference bago magpa-linis. Sabi ng PT, mga two months kaya ngayon, tinitiis ko na lang. Kaya pa naman eh,” said the 34-year-old Quinahan.
With him playing through an injury, Quinahan led NLEX’s offensive attack in its 91-70 victory over Alaska, finishing with 14 points and shot 4 of 6 from threes. Quinahan also grabbed seven rebounds and tallied three steals in the Road Warriors win.
Quinahan said he took head coach Yeng Guiao’s words to heart not to hesitate on taking open shots and making an effort to play defense at the same time.
“Ang sabi lang niya, i-continue ‘yung depensa namin na maging aggressive at wag mag-hesitate kapag may open shot. Nagulat lang ako na na-shoot. Tsamba lang siguro. Pina-practice ko naman ‘yun. Siguro may halo ring suwerte pero lahat maganda linaro namin,” Quinahan said.
