JOSHUA Munzon was slapped with a technical foul for the strangest of reasons during the final seconds of NorthPort’s win over NLEX in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night.
With 6.5 seconds left in the game and NorthPort clinging to a 112-108 lead, Munzon was caught shooting a free throw even though it was supposed to be Cade Flores, who was fouled while grabbing a rebound in the previous possession.

Confusion arose after Munzon made the free throw, and after all was sorted out, Munzon was called for a technical foul.
Fortunately for NorthPort, the technical foul didn’t cost the team as Robbie Herndon missed the technical free throw, making it still a four-point lead for the Batang Pier.

Flores eventually shot the free throws, and knocked one down to settle the final score at 113-108, giving the Batang Pier only their second win and ending an eight-game losing streak.
Flores said the switch was unintentional.
“I don’t even know,” said Flores, when asked about the technical foul on Munzon during the postgame press conference. “Actually, I was walking over to shoot the free throw, the ref called over Joshua to shoot. I was like ‘Okay, sure.’ And then, he shot it.”
Eventually, Flores and Munzon got a good laugh out of it after the mistake.
“I started giggling. I don’t know what’s going on. It’s a misunderstanding, I guess,” said Flores.
