Scoring so much easier in a Ginebra team that's chock-full of talent, says Joseph Yeo

    Nov 12, 2014

BARANGAY Ginebra guard Joseph Yeo is thankful he’s playing for a team that's chock-full of scoring options.

Unlike last season when he, Asi Taulava and Sean Anthony had to carry much of the scoring load for Air21, this time Yeo finds it a lot easier to make an impact in a game with a Ginebra team filled with scorers.

Besides, Ginebra's frontline led by Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar attracts so much attention that shooters like him are usually left open for spot-up shots, Yeo said.

“Sa last two games, siguro nakaka-blend in na ako, eh actually mas easier, kasi ang dami (scorers in Ginebra) kaya malilibre ka dahil pag na-double nila si Greg (Slaughter), mao-open ako,” said Yeo.

The former La Salle star took advantage of all those openings to score 17 points including five three-pointers to spark a second-half rampage that carried Ginebra past Barako Bull, 94-75, on Wednesday night.

Yeo has averaged 17 points in Ginebra's past two games, winning 'Best Player' honors both times.

The six-foot combo guard said Ginebra coach Jeffrey Cariaso has been patiently teaching him the intricacies of the triangle offense, a system that has produced 18 PBA championships for Purefoods Star mentor Tim Cone.

And part of the lessons he’s getting from Cariaso is learning to pick his spots, considering that the Gin Kings have an armada of players capable of scoring in the paint and from the perimeter.

“Si coach Jeff, lagi niya sinasabi dito (triangle) nakukuha ni PJ (Simon) at James (Yap) ang points nila, so parang yun ang gusto niya mangyari sa amin ni Mark (Caguioa)," said Yeo.

"Na kung saan nakukuha ni PJ at James yung points nila, ganun din sa amin,” explained the 'Ninja.'
