JACKSON Corpuz's near-double-double averages in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup finals couldn't help his his team win the championship, but it was more than enough to get the attention of pro ballclubs.
Corpuz, in fact, just signed with PBA team Mahindra on the heels of Racal's 81-78 loss to Cignal San Beda in Game Three on Thursday, according to Mahindra assistant team manager Joe Ramos.
"We wanted to sign him up earlier, but with Racal's success in the playoffs, we did not want to disrupt their run," said Ramos, adding Corpuz wi suit up for the Floodbuster on Monday.
The former Philippine Christian University standout averaged 20 points and 9.3 rebounds in the best-of-three finale. He had 20 points and 11 rebounds in Game Two, helping Racal extend the series to a winner-take-all match.
Corpuz was as explosive in Game Three, but not even his 24-point, nine-rebound output could give the Tile Masters their first title since joining the league in 2014.
The blonde-haired forward, who went undrafted in 2014, will reinforce a struggling Floodbuster side that absorbed its fourth defeat in five games at the hands of Star, 97-83, last Wednesday.
