SAN Miguel acting coach Jorge Gallent expressed his team’s readiness to play the Bay Area Dragons in the semifinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup – whoever their import will be.

Gallent said he likes the team’s chances against the Dragons in their best-of-five series, whether they play against Andrew Nicholson or Myles Powell.

At the moment, Nicholson will be reinforcing the Dragons in lieu of Powell, who suffered an injury before their quarterfinal match against Rain or Shine.

Under the concessions given to the guest team, Bay Area can still replace Nicholson with Powell, but Nicholson will no longer be allowed to play.

“Definitely, yes,” said Gallent, when asked if they are ready for their opponents making a change again. “Whatever import they use or will use, we will be ready for Nicholson or Powell. It’s just that we have to know who will play and who will not play so that we can prepare well.”

The last time both teams met was last October 16 when Bay Area blew past San Miguel, 113-87, with Nicholson as the import of the Dragons.

Gallent said the difference from two months ago to now is that they now have a full line-up.

“The first game, we just didn’t have guys that we have an advantage to get to them. But now, Terrence [Romeo] is back. June Mar [Fajardo] is back. I think we have ways to take advantage of our offense to them,” said Gallent.

As far as scouting is concerned, Gallent said playing against Nicholson in the elims will help the Beermen in their preparation in the playoffs. The San Miguel acting head coach believes his team team can compete with the 6-foot-10 import.

“Size-wise, we are kinda okay with them. We have guys that can match up with them. We have talented big guys also. I won’t have a problem also. When we played them, it was Nicholson as the import. We can watch videos and see what went wrong and what we can do to improve in our series.”

Despite the confidence, Gallent said Bay Area is a formidable foe in the semifinals.

“Those guys are staying in one hotel. Their bonding is very good. We just have to match their aggressiveness, their intensity, and we will be okay,” said Gallent.
