It didn't state the role of Leo Austria, who has been the head coach of the Beermen since 2014, winning nine PBA crowns including this season's Philippine Cup crown.
The role won't be new for Gallent, the lead assistant coach of the Beermen, after he took over the head coaching chores temporarily during one stretch of the Commissioner's Cup after Austria was under the league's health and safety protocols.
San Miguel later confirmed Gallent is set to take over the head coaching position with Austria now the team consultant.
Gallent held the acting head coach position in the tailend of the Commissioner’s Cup eliminations, winning four straight games. He captured two more wins in the quarterfinals against Converge before Austria came back in Game Two of the semifinals against Bay Area.
Gallent returns as head coach after briefly handling B-Meg from 2010 to 2011 before becoming the assistant coach of San Miguel for 11 years.
He is a six-time champion coach in the amateurs, guiding Harbour Centre to six crowns in the defunct Philippine Basketball League.
