JONG Uichico described Talk ‘N Text’s 114-98 loss to Alaska in its Smartbro-PBA Philippine Cup debut in one word simple word: Massacre.

“We got massacred,” said Uichico after emerging from the Tropang Texters’ dugout long after the 16-point blowout loss at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday night.

“We got killed and we don’t make it a game. We tried, but they’re (Aces) just comfortable (playing) with each other.”

Other than a 6-0 start to the game, the Tropang Texters weren’t really in the game as the Aces controlled the tempo the moment they seized the lead and finished the first quarter ahead, 30-18.

The Aces eventually led at its biggest at 104-83 midway in the final quarter.

Uichico explained the Tropang Texters are practically a new team with the presence of top rookie picks Moala Tautuaa and Troy Rosario, and new acquisitions Dennis Miranda, Dylan Ababou, and Larry Rodriguez.

    But he’s not making excuses.

“We’re practically a new team,” he said, explaining the Tropang Texters only got to practice for two weeks with a complete lineup following the return of Jason Castro, Ranidel De Ocampo, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, and Rosario from their Gilas Pilipinas duty.

“So we’re just trying to fit in the new players, kaya medyo nangangapa pa.”

Uichico also noted how Tautuaa and Rosario struggled right in their first game as a pro. The Fil-Am top draft pick finished with only two points on 1-of-5 shooting, while Rosario, the no. 2 overall pick behind Tautuaa, had four on 2-of-7 field goal.

“They have to play. I’m not saying they didn’t do well,” he said of the two formidable rookies. “Bago pa lang sa PBA e, they’re still learning the style of the PBA. And you know they just have to keep on progressing. Let’s just see what happens.”
