TERRENCE Jones hit a new high after competing his third triple-double of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup - and his second is as many playdates - on Sunday in TNT KaTropa’s 115-97 win ovber victory over Blackwater.
The former NBA player compiled 36 points, 16 rebounds, and 14 assists to lead the KaTropa to their seventh consecutive win, enough to clinch twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
According to PBA statistics head Fidel Mangonon, Jones became the first TNT import to record at least three triple-doubles in a conference since Silas Mills (when the team was still named Mobiline) did it in the 1998 Governors’ Cup.
Jones also became the first import since Petron’s Elijah Milsap in the 2013 Governors’ Cup to record at least three triple-doubles in c conference - and the first to record a triple-double for the second consecutive time since Justin Brownlee of Ginebra in last year’s Commissioner’s Cup.
Jones said he has been passing the ball more n preparation for the playoffs to give his teammates confidence in the games that matter.
“I’m not worried about that,” said Jones, when asked about the records he set. “I’m just happy that we are winning games and that we are looking like we are building our chemistry to the playoffs.”
Jones said his teammates have been instrumental in yet another triple-double.
“I give credit to my teammates. I’m telling them to shoot the ball when they get it and they are making shots," said the TNT import.
"A lot of teams have been trying to double team and give us different defenses. I just want to be ready and have confidence and I think that’s how we are playing right now and we are having fun enjoying with each other,” said Jones.
