COACHING NLEX and Gilas Pilipinas at the same time, along with the rigors of the campaign during the last election, has taken its toll on coach Yeng Guiao who took a leave of absence from the team’s campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Guiao left for Europe with his family and was not around when the Road Warriors played the Alaska Aces on Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
In his absence, deputy Jojo Lastimosa called the shots against the Aces.
An NLEX official said the fiery mentor need ‘to recharge’ after a hectic first half of 2019 that saw him steer the national team to a berth in the FIBA World Cup this August in China.
He also ran during the mid-term election for congressman in the first district of Pampanga where he lost to incumbent Jon Lazatin II.
Guiao will also miss the Road Warriors’ games against Columbian Dyip (June 1) and Blackwater (June 8).
The NLEX mentor will be back on June 10, in time for the team’s June 14 match against Magnolia and th start of the national team's buildup for Fiba World Cup in China.
