THOUGH this wasn't the first time he saw CJ Perez in action, Columbian coach Johnedel Cardel still couldn't help but be in awe of the presumptive top pick on Thursday in the 2018 PBA Gatorade Draft Combine.
He says the Dyip is doing the right thing taking the Hong Kong-born forward at No. 1.
"CJ is an energy guy at kailangan talaga siya ng team namin," he said. "Napakalaking addition sa amin yun kung sakali. I need a player that can create to his teammates, give energy to the team, at kaya niya ipanalo yung team."
Columbian management led by governor Bobby Rosales has repeatedly stated the team's intention of making the NCAA Season 93 MVP the head of the class, thrilled to acquire a franchise-altering talent like Perez.
Cardel agrees, echoing everyone's comparison of Perez to that of another former San Sebastian Stag in Calvin Abueva.
"Since naglaro si CJ sa San Sebastian pa, para nga siyang si Abueva na mas kumpleto," he said.
More than the talent, though, Cardel is happier to see Perez exhibit good attitude, something a future franchise player must have to make it in the PBA.
"Yung attitude niya, talagang napakaganda. Yung work ethic din. He's a team player and yun talaga ang hinahanap ko," he said.
