IT’S been over half a decade since John Wilson felt what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the cheers from the fans of the PBA’s most popular team.

After hearing it again during Ginebra’s thanksgiving party last Friday where he got an invitation from coach Tim Cone, the veteran gunner can’t wait to experience it on a nightly basis again.

Playing for Gin Kings in his first two years in the league, Wilson is back trying out for even just a fringe spot on the roster.

“Na-appreciate ko yung kindness niya for me to join the thanksgiving party,” Wilson said of Cone. “Nakaka-miss yung mga ganung event.”

Now, the 30-year-old shooting guard is eager to make it back to the team that took him in the first round and seventh overall of the 2010 rookie draft after failing to land a contract extension from Phoenix following the departure of his longtime coach, Ariel Vanguardia.

“It depends naman kay coach Tim kung makaka-sign ako,” Wilson said. “Kung ano yung will ni Lord para sa akin, siya lang nakakaalam nun.”

The former NCAA MVP out of Jose Rizal University is battling rookie hopeful Mikey Cabahug for the last spot on a champion team that – if it has any weakness – is its lack of shooters.

“Hopefully magtagal pa ako (sa liga),” Wilson said. “Syempre gusto ko talaga maglaro ng basketball. Wala naman akong dapat patunayan, kasi gusto ko talaga maglaro ng basketball, kasi 'yun ang hilig ko mula pagkabata.

“Hopefully makuha ako dito sa Ginebra ulit,” the seven-year veteran concluded.
