WHILE it got one big man back, Ginebra is set to lose another big man at least in the early part of its PBA Governors’ Cup title-retention campaign.

The Gin Kings welcomed back Greg Slaughter, but are about to miss Joe Devance, who is set to undergo a long-delayed foot surgery once he returns from his US vacation.

“I think balik niya Sunday then he will get surgery so he’ll be missing some of the games,” Gin Kings assistant coach Richard del Rosario said after the team’s tune-up game against Alaska on Thursday.

Del Rosario said the 6-foot-7 Devance, the Gin Kings’ defensive anchor and emergency playmaker who has been playing hurt since the Philippine Cup, could be out for a month.

“Kailangan na rin niya, kasi tagal niya ng pinu-put off yung surgery niya,” Del Rosario said. “We're going to miss Joe. We're happy to get Greg back but si Joe naman mami-miss namin, yun ang pros and cons nun.”
