RAIN or Shine found no reason why they shouldn’t re-up with J’Nathan Bullock, and coach Caloy Garcia is just exuding in confidence in this second run with the former Cleveland State standout.
“Bakit hindi?,” the lively mentor said when asked why Bullock was called back.
“Last time we brought him here, we only lost three games with him. One thing I told the players is he can play multiple positions. He can play from the point to the big. It will also help out everybody in terms of we don’t have to limit him to one position.”
Bullock replaced JD Weatherspoon three games into the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup and made an instant impact for the Elasto Painters.
His presence was a welcome addition to the team in the tightly contested tournament that Rain or Shine’s 7-4 card could only settle for a seventh-place finish, but not before putting up a fight against second seed TNT in the quarterfinals.
That’s why for Garcia, Bullock is exactly what the doctor ordered for the Elasto Painters.
“I think we need somebody like him,” he said.
Bullock is a definite shot in the arm for a Rain or Shine team that showed promise in the past conference and topped the eliminations of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
However, Garcia remains wary, knowing that his team was cut in half for its preparations for the season-ending conference as six of his key cogs will be seeing action with the Philippine team in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
“The only problem is half of the team is in the Asian Games and the other half is gonna be here. Getting half of the team international experience will be a big boost for us while the other half of the team can work on their skills. Sa akin lang, it will depend on how they practice here,” he said.
