GOING into a do-or-die Game Five in their semifinal series in the PBA Governor’s Cup, Talk N’ Text stalwart Jimmy Alapag said they cannot afford to let their guard down against the San Mig Coffee Super Mixers.
“(It's) winner take all, win or go home at this point. You have two champion teams fighting for a slot in the finals, so it’s going to be important for us to come out and play a complete 48-minute game because that’s what’s going to take for us to beat them," said the 36-year old point guard during the unveiling of the new Nike Gilas Pilipinas uniforms at the Treston International College in Bonifacio Global City.
The 5-9 guard said he feels the Tropang Texters should stay solid with their match-ups -offensively and defensively - and try to limit the output of opposing players, specifically James Yap, Marcus Blakely and PJ Simon.
“They’ve got a lot of weapons over there. We’ve got to be solid on the defensive end and try to get out on our running game,” the Fil-Am player from Los Angeles told Spin.ph.
Alapag said his team was fortunate that their bench stepped up in Game Four, a thrilling 84-81 victory in overtime that tied the series at two wins apiece.
“The last game I think it was really our bench guys - Danny Seigle and Larry (Fonacier) came off the bench and made some really great shots for us down the stretch to try and give us some breathing room.”
For Alapag, what worked for them last Wednesday is still the same formula they need for tonight’s game.
“It’s going to come down to who can get enough stops defensively and hopefully make enough shots in the end game to get the win.”
