NO individual milestone can ease Jimmy Alapag’s pain over his team’s struggles.

The Meralco guard moved into the Top Five of the all-time PBA assists list on Wednesday night when he dished out four in the Bolts’ 108-104 loss to GlobalPort in the PBA Philippine Cup.

“It’s an honor, but something like that is really secondary right now,” Alapag reiterated after leapfrogging Willie Generalao on the list. “I would trade all those right now for us to get some wins.”

While that highlighted his ability to share the ball, the Bolts star also showed a conscious effort to be more aggressive on offense especially down the stretch as the knocked down four three-pointers – some from way beyond the arc – to score 15 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter against the Batang Pier.

Still, all the former league MVP’s efforts proved insufficient as the Bolts suffered their ninth loss in 10 games that eliminated them from quarterfinal contention.

“It’s been a struggle for us,” Alapag said. “It gets tougher and tougher and it gets to a point where you get a little frustrated.

“But at the same time, it’s part of the process,” he added. “We’re still a new team. We haven’t quite put it all together just yet.”

Alapag even admitted that he somehow expected the Bolts to have a tough time this conference.

“I anticipated that we might struggle, because any time you have a team that has a lot of new pieces, it doesn’t happen overnight,” he said. "Even with my time with Talk ‘n Text, it took some time for us to put it all together. And we’re going through that frustrating part of the process now.”

“Fortunately, the season goes on,” he added. “We’ll finish strong against Rain or Shine and hopefully use that game as momentum going into the import conference.”
