Best is yet to come as KIA import Jet Chang keen to build on impressive debut

    May 7, 2015

JET Chang was no more than a third choice as Asian import for KIA Motors, but he looked top notch from the third quarter on in his PBA Governors’ Cup debut on Wednesday night.

Chang Tsung-hsien, fondly called 'Jet Chang,' made a bunch of long-range jumpers and made a lot of hustle plays on the floor that keyed the Carnival’s 83-78 victory over San Miguel Beer.

Chang picked up from a slow start to tally 14 points, all in the second half, to go with three steals, two assists, and two rebounds in 31 minutes.

The 6-foot-3 Taiwanese wingman actually missed all his three three-point attempts, but buried two long two-point shots that broke a deadlock and gave his team the lead for good at 69-65.

But the 26-year-old Chang insists he’s far from where he wants to be after practicing for just a week with KIA.

“I got a lot of mistakes because I haven't played for so long,” said Chang, who also committed a team-high four turnovers. “My rhythm and my pace, I still have to get it. I have to get it the next time.”

Still, the Chinese Taipei national team veteran did enough when it mattered to help his team pull off the stunning victory against the Philippine Cup champion.

“I just want to try to be aggressive all the time, just try to help the team and do what the coach wants me to do,” Chang said. “It was a win for everybody. We played hard and we played well so it's nice.”

Chang said he is a fan of KIA playing-coach Manny Pacquiao and is excited to meet him.

“I just never had the chance to meet him yet because he was busy preparing for his fight (against Floyd Mayweather),” he said. “I'm looking forward to it.”

When his coach returns, Chang hopes they can make a deep postseason run together.

“We want to go as far as we can, hopefully get a championship,” the soft-spoken cager said. “Everybody has one goal and everybody wants it.”
