THE fate of Jerwin Gaco at Globalport remains hanging in the balance with the 42nd season of the PBA set to open on Sunday.
While the name of the popular back-up forward was nowhere to be found in the latest roster the Batang Pier submitted to the league, a team insider said there's no final decision yet on whether Gaco will be cut or not.
"Pag-uusapan pa namin," said the source, who refused to be named pending an official decision by the team on the bruising veteran.
The six-year veteran's contract was not renewed by Star in the offseason and he failed to earn a spot at Rain or Shine, where pal James Yap now plays.
The former La Salle stalwart continues to practice with Globalport and even suited up in the Batang Pier's 102-81 loss to Barangay Ginebra in a tune-up game last Friday.
As per league rule, teams can still alter their final 15-man lineup at least 24 hours before its opening game in the season-opening Philippine Cup.
The Batang Pier won't make their season debut until November 25 against Mahindra.
Also not included in Globalport's roster this season is veteran gunner Sunday Salvacion.
Meanwhile, missing from the Meralco lineup is big man Ryan Buenafe. The former Ateneo player still suited up for the Bolts when they finished runner-up behind Ginebra in last month's Governor Cup.
A pair of free agents on the other hand, earned roster spots with Rain or Shine and Star, respectively, heading to the new season.
Dexter Maiquez was added as the Elasto Painters' 15th man after serving as practice player of the team last season.
Alvin Abundo also reached a deal with the Hotshots as a last-minute signee along with another free agent in Samboy de Leon.
