JERWIN Gaco lived up to being Star’s lucky charm as the Hotshots broke a dry spell when he was fielded on Sunday night in their 104-103 win over Meralco in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
The seldom-used forward played for the first time this conference, coming in the last two minutes and 14 seconds of the third quarter, hauling down one offensive rebound and drawing a foul that led to his only point of the game.
It was a point that spelled a difference in the Hotshots’ one-point win that snapped a five-game skid and allowed them to stay alive in the playoff race.
Gaco had already left when SPIN.ph tried to reach him, but teammate PJ Simon attested to the difference the veteran forward made.
“Oo naman (factor siya),” Simon said. “Minsan, hindi mo alam na bigla ka na lang bubunutin, so good thing (nag-step up siya).”
“Lahat naman kami, ready lagi kung sino ang ipapasok,” he added. “So nabuhay yung bench, masaya kami lahat, at nageenjoy kami.”
So is Gaco truly the Hotshots’ lucky charm?
“Yun nga sinasabi nila,” Simon said.
