JERVY Cruz is excited to finally suit up for Barangay Ginebra after missing the Governors’ Cup.
The 32-year-old Cruz said he has fully-recovered after a procedure to remove bone spurs in his left foot. He is also looking forward to contributing for the Kings in their title bid in the Philippine Cup.
“Alam mo ‘yun, parang bago ka uli na gusto mo maglaro,” Cruz said. “Last conference, parang hindi ako nakatulong. Nanghihinayang din ako.”
During his recovery period, Cruz said he didn’t have any physical activity and only worked on his strengthening.
“Kailangan talaga ipahinga. Sabi ng doctor, may linagay siya na pin kaya nag-strengthening lang ako,” said Cruz.
Cruz saw action for Ginebra in its tune-up game victory over Phoenix, scoring nine points.
The former University of Santo Tomas player admitted the tune-up game is still not an indication on how he will play for the coming conference.
“Naka-recover na ako sa injury. Conditioning at timing na lang kailangan. ‘Yung timing, medyo naninibago pa,” said Cruz.
Cruz said the Kings are excited for the coming Philippine Cup as they look to end a 12-year drought in the conference despite tough odds having seen other teams, particularly San Miguel, beefing up their roster.
“Lahat kami excited kasi all-Filipino, lahat magpapakita. Last conference, hindi namin nakuha ‘yung championship. Ngayon, paghihirapan namin. Sabi nga ni coach, 5-on-5 naman ‘yung game. Lahat kami kailangan mag-contribute,” Cruz said.
