JERRICK Ahanmisi has moved to a new chapter of his PBA career after being acquired by San Miguel in a trade with Terrafirma earlier this month.

After a breakout conference with the Dyip during the Commissioner’s Cup, Ahanmisi is set to play with the Beermen starting in the Governors’ Cup after a trade that brought him and Paolo Hernandez to the reigning Philippine Cup champions for Juami Tiongson and Chris Miller.

The 28-year-old Ahanmisi is excited to compete for championships on a consistent basis with San Miguel which he never experienced at perennial cellar-dweller Terrafirma, but remained grateful to the Dyip for the opportunity to develop into one of the most potent scorers in the league.

“It gave me an opportunity to actually showcase my skills and my talents,” said Ahanmisi, who played for Terrafirma from 2025 to 2026 after spending his first four years in the PBA with Magnolia as a bench warmer.

“I’m always going to be grateful to Terrafirma and the management and the coaches because without them, I probably wouldn’t be here right now,” said the reigning 3-Point Shootout and Skills Challenge champion during the PBA All-Star Weekend.

When the trade went down earlier this month, Ahanmisi said one of the persons that was happy about the move was no less than his older brother and Terrafirma teammate Maverick.

“He was really happy for me. He was happy that I finally got the chance to come to a championship team and hopefully, I’ll be able to get a couple of championships over here,” said Jerrick, who is still in search of his first PBA crown after being drafted by Magnolia at No. 10 overall in 2020 (Season 46).

“I think it’s a blessing from God and without Him, I don’t think I would be able to be put in this position. I also did put in a lot of work and I feel like I earned it and I deserve to be here just as much as all of my teammates deserve to be here. So I just have to go out there and prove it again,” he added.

Ahanmisi put together one of his best conferences of his career when he averaged a league-best 21.25 points per game. He also topped the conference with 12 four-point conversions, and sixth in average three-point field goals made with 2.42.

He also normed 3.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists, while also being a force on defense after averaging 1.5 steals.

With his shooting ability, Ahanmisi is expected to space the floor that will also allow June Mar Fajardo and Cjay Perez to operate on their comfort zone for San Miguel.

“I think it’s going to be somewhat the same [with Terrafirma],” said Ahanmisi, when asked about his role at San Miguel. “But at the same time, it’s going to be also trying to find ways to get my teammates involved as well because we have so much talent on the team and we have so much skills on the team that I’m going to be able to utilize when I’m on the court as well.”

“I also have to not forget that I’m here for a reason as well and I need to know that I need to try to find my shot whenever I need to and make sure that the defense is always on their toes whenever they’re guarding me,” said Ahanmisi.

“Even if they do have to focus on June Mar a lot, they’re still going to have to focus on me, focus on Cjay, George King, Marcio, I mean everybody. So we’re going to give a lot of teams problems. But if our team can stick together and find a type of chemistry and synchronization, we will be okay,” said Ahanmisi.
