EVEN though in crutches and having difficulty walking, Jerramy King vowed to be at the games of Columbian Dyip in the PBA Philippine Cup whenever possible.
King was on the bench on Wednesday to watch and cheer his team on in the game against Phoenix just three days after officially being declared out for the next three months owing to a tear in his PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament).
The Columbian guard's injured right knee is strapped in a protective boot.
“I’m supporting the team as much as I can. I want to be a part of this as much as I can. You know, it’s too bad for my injury, but I’m going to do anything I can to help the team, be a leader as I can be for the young guys, for the young team. So I try to stay positive.”
No surgery is needed for the injury to fully heal. King is actually thankful the tear wasn't as worse as initially feared.
“I think this is not too bad. I think I got lucky. Two to three months, I’ve heard a lot of worst about ACL. I’m just glad it’s my PCL,” said the Fil-Am guard.
King suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Dyip’s game against defending champion San Miguel Beer as he fellon the floor while going for a drive against Chris Ross.
He did manage to finish the match won by the Dyip, 124-118, but could barely walk when his adrenaline finally subsided afterwards.
The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time as King was playing the best basketball of his PBA career, although he’s quick to accept his fate.
“It’s a tough injury. I was candidate for Most Improved [Player] and I’ve been playing well,” he said. “But you know everything is in God’s hands and if this is the position I need to be in, I just try to stay positive and comeback stronger next time.”
He hopes the Dyip would also come back better against NLEX following a 108-98 loss against league-leading Phoenix for a 1-1 record.
“It’s a tough loss (tonight). I think we need a bounce back and get ready for a game against NLEX,” he said.
