COLUMBIAN Dyip gets additional firepower when it resumes its campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday.
Jerramy King returns from a five-month layoff after suffering a partial tear on his PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament) during the Philippine Cup.
Already cleared by team doctors, King said he’s ready to suit up for the Dyip’s next outing against Magnolia at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Just going to do my best and hopefully, help the team win more games,” said King.
The activation of the Fil-Am guard comes at a perfect time for the Dyip, who are coming off their first win in the conference, a 120-105 drubbing of NLEX that arrested the team’s three game skid.
King went down with the injury during Columbian’s first game of the season last January that saw the Dyip stun San Miguel Beer, 124-118. He strained his knee in the second quarter but still played through the pain and finished with seven points and eight rebounds to help the team complete the upset.
He was projected for an early April comeback, but doctors don’t want to take chances and instead scheduled his return for the mid-season conference.
Good thing too, King didn’t undergo surgery and recovered through therapy.
Although he has long joined the Dyip in practice, he didn’t begin playing 5-on-five games until last week.
“But I’m getting better and better every day,” said King, who led the Dyip in scoring last season.
For good measure, King also shed some excess pounds to lessen the pressure on his knees.
“I’ve been working very hard. I lost a lot of weight to come back strong,” he added.
