JUST when things appear to be going the way of Columbian Dyip, disaster struck the team anew.
Lead point guard Jerramy King suffered a partial tear/strain in his PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament) during the team’s stunning win over defending champion San Miguel Beer and could be out for the rest of the season-opener PBA Philippine Cup.
King, who led the team in scoring last season with average of 19.3 points, went down with the injury in the second quarter of the game played at the Astrodome.
But the 28-year-old California native still played through the pain and helped Columbian pull off a 124-118 upset of the mighty Beermen.
King finished with seven points and eight rebounds and was still good enough to play 24 minutes despite the pain.
Columbian’s starting playmaker still showed up during the team’s practice on Monday at the Azure Urban Residences in crutches.
If there’s any consolation, King won’t be going under the knife to repair his PCL and will just needed to undergo rest and therapy.
Columbia will start playing without King on Wednesday when it takes on league-leading Phoenix at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It will actually be a gruelling five-day, three game schedule for the Dyip as they tangle with NorthPort next on Friday followed by NLEX on Sunday.
