JERON Teng is just cherishing his return so much that he doesn’t mind having to earn his minutes at San Miguel.
Used to heavy playing time at Converge, averaging over 26 minutes per game in the 47th season Governors’ Cup, his last conference with the team, the new Beerman made his comeback from a hamstring injury on Sunday in SMB's 132-110 win over Terrafirma in the Commissioner's Cup.
Teng misses two attempts
Teng hardly cares playing less than six minutes of action that saw him miss his two shot attempts.
“I just focus on the things that I have control of and that is getting myself prepared and working on my individual skills, and to do whatever it takes to help the team,” he said.
“Yun naman pinaka-important, it’s the main goal and that is to win a championship,” added the 29-year-old small forward, who played behind Don Trollano, Jericho Cruz, and Marcio Lassiter.
What’s important is him finally making a comeback on the court and playing his second game in an SMB uniform after almost two months out.
“I feel grateful. I’m just really happy to be back after seven weeks,” Teng said after getting cleared three days ago. “Slowly but surely naman.”
Teng not rushing things
“We’ve been winning games, so slowly I’m going to fit in,” he added. “Hindi naman ako nagru-rush and I’m just going to be ready, lalo na papasok ng playoffs. Everyone sa team namin has to be ready.”
His playing time may fluctuate, but the former La Salle star’s mindset won’t change.
“Yun naman talaga ulitimate goal. I haven’t won anything in the PBA,” the wo-time UAAP champion admitted. “And hopefully this conference, with our new import, and of course, the veterans of the team, it’s doable. I support the team the whole way.”
