THE SAMAHANG Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has released the lineup of the Philippine team for the 11th Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Championship, curiously with no current La Salle player making the cut.
The SBP posted the lineup on its Facebook page headed by naturalized player Marcus Douthit for the April 27 to May 1 competition serving as the qualifier for the 2015 Fiba-Asia Men's Championship in China.
Failing to make the 12-man cut, however, were La Salle cagers Jeron Teng, Arnold Van Opstal, and Prince Rivero, as well as Ateneo’s Thirdy Ravena and San Beda star Baser Amer.
Gilas Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin will coach the team and made the selections.
Two former Green Archers, Norbert Torres and Almond Vosotros, did make the team, joining Kiefer Ravena, Troy Rosario, Scottie Thompson, Bobby Ray Parks, Glenn Khobuntin, Mac Belo, Jiovanni Jalalon, Kevin Ferrer, and Russel Escoto.
Edwin Reyes, La Salle’s representative to the UAAP board, confirmed the school didn’t receive any communication from the SBP regarding Teng, Van Opstal, and Rivero's participation in the tournament.
“No permission was asked,” said Reyes. “They just didn’t make it to the lineup.”
Reyes, however, made it clear Teng, Van Opstal, and Rivero remain part of the Gilas cadet pool, from where the team to the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore will be culled
Teng and Co. were part of the 16-man pool that has been training for the two regional competitions for more than a month now.
