ANTIPOLO – Jericho Cruz and Chris Ross missed San Miguel's opener in the PBA 50th Season Commissioner's Cup as they are still dealing with injuries.
San Miguel coach Leo Austria said Cruz is suffering from back spasms from his stint with Guam in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers window while Ross is dealing with an Achilles injury that he sustained during the Beermen's run to the Philippine Cup title.

Cruz and Ross will be out for a couple more weeks, according to Austria.
“A few days ago, I was briefed by our PT na [doctors] are giving (Cruz) two weeks to recuperate from his injury. But he is starting to lift weights and [do] some conditioning but game shape (wala pa),” said Austria.
“Chris Ross, he is in practice but he is not joining practice. Three weeks ‘yung binigay ng doktor,’’ said Austria.

With Cruz and Ross out, San Miguel was defeated by Titan Ultra, 119-112, on Saturday in the Beermen's first game since taking home the Philippine Cup crown last February.
Austria said the Beermen need the presence of the two.
“I hope ma-fast track ‘yung kanilang [recovery] dahil it's obvious na we need somebody to lead the team,” Austria added.
