Jeric Teng admits almost losing hope on PBA comeback before Jarencio reunion

    Feb 14, 2018
Jeric Teng had nine points and two rebounds in 10 minutes of play in his GlobalPort debut.

JERIC Teng was reunited with the one he loves on Valentines’ Day.

The 26-year-old shooting guard made an impressive return to the PBA on Wednesday in Globalport's 99-84 win over TnT Katropa Katropa at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Teng had nine points and two rebounds in 10 minutes of play for the Batang Pier where he is reunited with college coach Pido Jarencio.

Apart from that, Teng was grateful for Globalport management for giving his pro career a new lease on life, admitting he almost  gave up after failing to secure a contract extension from KIA in the offseason.

“Definitely parang ang lahat ng door sa akin nagsara na. Pero I’m thankful to God, my family and friends who kept believing in me, and siyempre sa (Globalport) organization, sa big bosses ng Globalport, kay coach Pido. Talagang I’m very thankful na nabigyan nila ako ng rare opportunity dito,” said the former star player of University of Santo Tomas.

While without a team, Teng, a second-round pick of Rain or Shine in the 2013 draft, said he kept himself in shape by working out with younger brother Jeron, the current rookie guard of Alaska.

Jeric said his brother sent him a long text message just before the Batang Pier’s game against the Katropa.

“Kami ni Jeron suportado talaga namin ang isa’t isa,” he said. “Nung wala akong team tinutulungan ko rin siya kung ano ang puwede niyang magawa sa team niya sa Alaska. And I’m happy he’s getting the exposure that he deserves.”

Jarencio and the Globalport management felt Jeric also deserves another chance that they wasted no time signing him up as a free agent on Tuesday.

And for someone who played five years under Jarencio, Teng admitted feeling at home right away with the Batang Pier.

“I never imagined that I will play again for coach Pido. I didn’t even expect a call from them,” he said. “Siguro blessing that I was given this opportunity and I’m gonna make the most out of this.”
