BARANGAY Ginebra rookie guard Jens Knuttel said he had no intention of taunting Jimmy Alapag on Sunday night, adding he has nothing but respect for the veteran Talk ‘N Text point guard and Gilas Pilipinas star.

Knuttel was caught on television cameras on Sunday during the Kings’ PBA Governors Cup game against the Tropang Texters daring Alapag to take him on one-on-one through a hand gesture.

“To be honest, it kinda caught me off guard,” Alapag later told reporters after the Tropang Texters beat the Kings, 96-92. “I didn’t really know how to react to it. But again, I’ve played in too many games and been in this league too long to get involved in the whole whatever you want to call that.”

Contacted by Spin.ph to comment on what transpired between him and Alapag, Knuttel told Spin.ph that he got carried away by the intensity and emotions of the game.

“Meron lang ‘yung time na end of the shotclock, nag-sign ako na, 'Come here.' Nadala lang ako sa crowd and emotions, pero nothing against him,” the third-string Ginebra point guard said.

“Alam mo naman ako kuya noong college pa and D-League, ganun na ako maglaro,” the former Far Eastern University player later told this writer.

The two also shook hands at the end of the game.

Knuttel later apologized to Alapag on Twitter, saying he left “his emotions get the better of him” during the play.

“Just wanna say I truly idolize you. I meant no disrespect at all. Sorry, I let my emotions get the best of me. Congrats on the W!,” Knuttel wrote on his Twitter account on Monday, even tagging Alapag in his message.

Alapag, the 2010 league MVP, has yet to respond to Knuttel’s tweet, as of post time.

Knuttel, who has broken into Ginebra’s lineup this conference, scored two points and had five assists against the Tropang Texters in a losing cause.
