Rain or Shine gunner Jeff Chan glad to rediscover shooting touch in the nick of time

    Nov 12, 2014

GUNNER Jeff Chan blamed Rain or Shine’s poor free throw performance on Wednesday to lack of focus.

The Elasto Painters were lucky to squeak with an 86-83 win over a tough-fighting GlobalPort squad in the PBA Philippine Cup after going just 3-of-10 from the foul line in the final period.

They finished the game with just 19-of-31 from the foul line overall.

Chan, a career 75 percent career free throw shooter, shot just 3-of-7 in the game. Even big Beau Belga missed four straight foul shots late in the game that kept the door open for GlobalPort.

“Siguro yung sa free throws, mental na lang yan eh. Sometimes, pag nag-miss ka ng una, naiisip mo siguro, magmi-miss ako, so siguro, sa practice, kailangan ma-practice mo stroke mo para sa actual game,” said Chan.

Chan was thankful that Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao gave him a chance to redeem himself after shooting just 1-of-5 from the field in the first three quarters, while missing three straight free throws in the second half.

The Gilas mainstay went on to score 11 of his 16 points in the final period.

“Medyo nagising nga ako dun (bad shooting), kasi napagalitan ako (ni coach). Pero ako rin nainis, kasi ayaw pumasok talaga yung free throws. Naka-four straight nga ako, buti nakabawi naman ako,” he added.

Rain or Shine, now 4-2 (win-loss), looks to extend its winning streak to three when it returns to action in a PBA road game on Saturday against Meralco in Davao City.
