Rosary on foot prevents Jeff Chan from suffering worse injury

TO keep him out of harm’s way, Jeff Chan always made sure to put a small rosary whenever his ankle is being taped for a game.

Unfortunately, accident does happen.

Chan went down with a sprained right ankle and failed to finish Barangay Ginebra’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup debut against Blackwater Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The veteran gunner twisted his foot when he landed on the foot of Blackwater big man James Sena while taking a three-pointer at the corner with 8:56 to go in the fourth quarter.

Chan grimaced in pain following the incident, which resulted in Sena being ejected out of the game for a flagrant foul 2 infraction.

The 36-year-old Chan was later brought to the Ginebra dugout in a wheelchair.

He finished with seven points and two rebounds as the defending champion Kings lost the game in overtime, 108-107.

As if any consolation, there was no crack or tear on the injured foot, just a sprained ankle.

“Wala kang magagawa, pag bagsak mo nandun sa ilalim yung paa,” Chan said.
