JEFF Chan stressed he never thought of giving up despite Rain or Shine falling into an early hole in its PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal series opener against Ginebra on Sunday night.

The Elasto Painters went down by as many as 19 points early in the second quarter, before mounting a comeback on the way to an 88-84 victory and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Chan sealed the E-Painters’ comeback with a left-wing jumper that beat the buzzer.

“Inisip ko lang yung elims,” Chan said, referring to the E-Painters’ 103-92 loss to the Gin Kings last February where they also fell behind by twin digits, 17 points to be exact.

Chan made sure they completed their comeback this time.

“Very happy ako kasi we came back after being down by nineteen,” the veteran gunner said. “Sa elims tambak kami sa kanila, so magandang start ito para sa amin sa quarters.”

But the lefty shooter from Bacolod insisted he was just in the right place, at the right time.

“Nagkataon lang na nag-scramble yung defense nila at napunta sa akin si Greg (Slaughter),” said Chan, who continued his resurgence as he finished with 15 points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists in just 22 minutes.

“Tine-take ko lang as do-or-die every game,” he said. “Di mo masabi kung ano ang mangyayari. Pag down kami, mahihirapan kami makabangon. As much as possible, ahead kami always.”

Playing against the league’s most popular team is also extra motivation for the Gilas Pilipinas gunner.
