WITH Rain or Shine struggling, Jeff Chan knew his team needed him to show up healthy and back in top form, now more than ever.
The Gilas Pilipinas mainstay provided the spark for Rain or Shine last week in two big victories that revived the team's playoff hopes in the PBA Governors Cup - and rewarded Chan with a Player of the Week citation.
Showing he has finally recovered from the torn right plantar fascia which forced him to sit out four games in the last PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals, Chan fired 12 points, grabbed five rebounds, issued three assists and had two steals in just 16 minutes to lead Rain or Shine to a 123-85 romp against Blackwater.
And to prove that he's really back, the former Far Eastern University gunner put on a show for his fellow Bacolodnons in a road game over the weekend, contributing 10 points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes as Rain or Shine exacted revenge over Commissioner's Cup Finals tormentor Talk ‘N Text, 87-72.
Those two wins enabled Rain or Shine to get back in the playoff frame after starting the conference with a win to show in five games. The E-Painters are now at 3-4 (win-loss), tied for seventh spot with Star and Talk 'N Text.
More importantly, the team is finally looking like its old self, more so with fit-again players like Chan and Chris Tiu back to power the team.
No wonder Chan is excited.
“Ngayong kumpleto na kami, ang importante eh makuha namin 'yung rhythm namin,” he said.
