WHAT was expected to be a walk in the park for the Phoenix Fuel Masters proved to be a tough challenge on Thursday in a tuneup match with Kia.

Veteran Jeff Chan made the go ahead basket as the Fuel Masters overcame the Picanto, 82-80.

Kia fell behind early, 6-28, before gaining momentum, making it 55-63 in the third.

The victory gave a glimmer of hope for the Picanto management, which is now led by legendary coach Joe Lipa as the new team manager with former Manny Pacquiao wards Jo Ramos and Eric Pineda already out of the picture.

Kia management has also fully given the authority to governor Bobby Rosales.

“It is a totally new team, dati basta na lang sumusuko ang team pag down by 20 plus points, now we showed poise under pressure. We are happy for this team,” said a team source.

The new PBA season is scheduled to open in December.
